Lumpus maculaflare perplexa appears in a warm flare-body of yellow, orange, and red, freckled with black leopard spots like caution tape learned to purr. Two googly eyes perch at the ends of antennae, swivelling with delayed surprise. The face reads permanently bewildered, as if it just walked into a room mid-conversation.
It has three lower teeth, uneven and earnest, used mostly for nibbling soft things and looking mildly concerned.
It carries a small blank note (whiteboard-like), offered to humans as a thought-catcher. Adopters are encouraged to write a worry, a wish, or a sentence they can’t say out loud.
Curiously, the creature doesn’t look at what you write. Its eyes angle sideways, away from the confession. This is not avoidance. It is consent. Lumpus maculaflare perplexa witnesses you without consuming you.
